Australian Specialty

29th and 30th September 2007

I would like to thank the Committee for inviting me to judge their show.  It was part of a holiday that we had been hoping to make for years and  it was a great treat to judge the show also.  Best in Show came from Open Bitch Class, Davies’ Rhodepark Americn Expreso a lovely red bitch with superb movement.  At two years old she is just coming into her best.  Runner up Best in Show was Miller’s bitch Lionveldt Hasa Pantera from Junior Class.

I was impressed with the handling and presentation of exhibits.  They were moved at a good pace to show off  their excellent profile movement.  As profile movement in general was good it was generally the movement coming and going, particularly coming which influenced placings.   Hindquarters were good but fronts, elbows, pasterns and feet in particular could be improved.

Temperament was good;  I only had one which backed off a little but as she was a young bitch coming into her first season I can empathise as I have two young bitches at the moment.   Exhibits went well with different handlers which I found impressive.

There were a few exhibits with incorrect bites which was almost unheard in the old English lines but is a fault that has started to creep into English ridgebacks also.

Type, balance, ridges and general conformation were very good.

The Veteran Classes were well attended with some extremely good exhibits in superb condition.  Best Veteran in Show went to Bell’s Grand Ch. Ballahond Rikkara Cool ET a bitch with superb movement, who was also a hot contender for Runner Up Best in Show.  One of my favourites from the Veteran Class was Barrenger’s American Bred Bitch Grand Ch. Camelot’s The Fifth Element ET  who was second in Veteran and fourth in Open Bitch.  She is Liver-nosed and has the most classic head and expression so lacking in many exhibits both in Australia and in Europe.   She won the Best Head with ease, her daughter Ch Isilwane Orlando ET took best gaited.  Best Ridge which was won by Batten’s Ch. Umkimzulu Kiss the Girls.
