SKC Ch. Show
I really enjoyed my appointment at SKC, it was the first time I had
judged North of the Border and it was heartening to see that there was real
quality in the entry. Overall
profile movement is improving with many, especially in the younger exhibits
showing great promise. However
there is now a trend to have keep youngsters kept so lean that they seem to
grow tall and ribby. In my
opinion they rarely develop the correct spring of rib when reared in this way.
Narrowness in ribbing means the hound will lack endurance.
I was surprised to see a few a little overshot which is something I
have not come across before when judging and some without the desired width
between the canines Temperaments were excellent, as expected.
I have not commented on ridges generally.
All were acceptable, I have commented when they were exceptional.
The hospitality of the committee and the friendliness of the exhibitors
was first rate. If I were to make
one little criticism, it would be the ring which was a little small with posts
in the way which made moving the dogs difficult.
It was colder under the canvas than outside which did affect some
exhibits.
Junior Dog (6:0) – Two lovely
young dogs with plenty of potential, both at the leggy stage.
Both of good breed type.
1st Hutcheson & Ogilvie’s Sonstraal Baron Samedi. Excellent planes to head, shoulder well laid but would like a
little more return of upper arm. A
little loose in his feet but this should tighten up as he matures.
Lovely reach of neck. Strong,
level topline leading to correct angle of pelvis giving excellent tailset.
Well turned stifle. Lovely
free mover in profile. Shows
great promise.
2nd Hicks’ – Kiromol Kiwambo at Nuthouse.
Good layback of shoulder. Excellent
reach of neck Moved with long
strides movement but overall picture slightly detracted by carrying his tail a
little high. Sound coming and
going. Should carry more weight
and needs more time to mature.
3rd Lawless’ Faahac Fjaala
Spec Yearling Dog (2:0)
1st
Bennie’s – Nehando Mwari. Correct
planes to head and correct depth of muzzle.
Correct eye colour and placement.
Good tailset. Could settle
more on the move.
2nd Harries
& Coutts’. Sonstraal Double
o Seven. Correct depth of muzzle
and planes to head. Well boned.
Post Grad Dog (1:0)
1st
Cudahy’s – Zimba’s Last Stand. Stood
alone but a worthy winner. Correctly
balanced overall. Good straight
front, boned down to the ground. Excellent
feet. Good turn of stifle with
well let down hocks. Correct
tailset. Moved straight and true coming and going with lovely profile
movement. Should carry less
weight and would like him in harder condition, overall a very nice hound.
Limit Dog (4:0)
1st Craigie’s - Imbali Kipenzi J W.
Super head, lovely dark eye with excellent reach of neck. Excellent lay of shoulder and return of upper arm.
Good turn of stifle with width to first and second thigh, hocks well
defined. Excellent profile
movement, plenty of reach and drive.
2nd Hutcheson & Ogilvie – Kwekwe Kudo.
Correct fill in of chest. Could tighten a little in front and feet.
3rd Muir – Zeptepi Maserati
Open
Dog (10:0)
1st Rossiter &
Fox – Sonstraal Somali – My RCC winner last time when he was a young dog
and has matured well. Correct
balance of body, ribs which are well sprung correctly dropped to elbows and
carried well back, excellent firm level topline with correct angle of pelvis
giving a good tailset. Excellent
ridge. Well boned straight
forelegs and good turn of stifle, hocks well let down.
Movement has tightened coming and going since the last time I judged
him and is very true and in profile plenty of reach of drive.
Well deserved CC and BOB.
2nd Schofield – Ousebay’s Mungo’s Magic.
Similar in many ways to my CC winner.
Correct rectangular balance overall.
Correct depth and width of muzzle, good straight planes to head with
correct stop. Hocks well let
down. Pushed hard for the CC but
is slightly looser in front at the moment but moved accurately going away and
with reach and drive in profile. RCC
3rd Wheeler and Campbell’s Rex Ventors Beks at Nyassa (Imp)
Puppy Bitch (5:0)
1st Baldwin & Cochran’s Mangwe First Edition.
Clear red wheaten. Excellent
bone to forelegs. Correct level
topline. Good turn of stifle and
hocks are well let down with width to first and second thigh.
Moved very freely in profile and also tracks up well coming and going
Best Puppy.
2nd Bradd’s – Savasana Mariska
Well balanced puppy with a
good turn of stifle, lovely ribbing. Moved well in profile and tracks up well,
3rd Armstrong’s Shawema Leoni
Junior Bitch (5:0)
1st
Storey’s Kiromol Kizazi
Straight forelegs with correct
spring of pastern and knuckling to feet. Good fill in of chest for one so young. Typey feminine head. Correct
body shape being a shade longer than tall.
Well angulated rear. Lovely
balanced accurate and fluid movement. Cold
weather affected her in the challenge.
2nd Duffy & Hollingworth’s Faahac Fizanaa
Feminine head, well boned
forelegs, well ribbed back. Moved
easily but with not the drive of 1,
3rd Rossiter & Fox’s Sonstraal Pussy Galore
Spec Yearling
(4:0)
1st Storey’s
Kiromol Kizazi
2nd Bradd’s
Savasana Mariska
3rd Parke
Veldtkammer Blitz Post Grad (3:0)
Three lovely young bitches
which were unlucky to meet in the same class.
1st Craigie’s – Imbali Azizi
Excellent fill in of chest from front and good forechest in profile.
Lovely clean neck of good length and slightly arched.
Lovely bone, which is also strong below the pastern joint giving
excellent pasterns and feet. Good
turn of stifle. Moved well in
profile and tracks up well.
2nd Davis’s Imola Indianapolis
Correctly balanced in body. Much
to like about her this bitch; lovely typey head with good planes to the muzzle
and skull and correct step up of stop. Level topline and well ribbed back. Unfortunately she was not showing at her best today and her
inconsistent movement spoilt her chances of winning this class.
3rd Agnew – Janak Xamax of Mwenga JW
Limit B (1:0)
1st Harrower – Flametrees Nenya at Jimanns
Would like a little more fill in of chest but the ribs are deep and
carried well back giving her an excellent topline. Good turn of stifle and feet and pasterns.
Open B (9:0)
1st Crunden’s - Voortrekker Bamba
Lovely feminine bitch with super reach of neck which is clean and well
laid shoulders. Straight front
and pasterns and lovely overall balance.
Correct depth and spring of ribs carried well back and correct tailset.
Excellent turn of stifle. Very
accurate coming and going with excellent reach and drive.
Pushed hard last time I judged for the CC but had to settle for the
Reserve. This time went one
better and became a well deserved Champion.
2nd Cunningham’s Walamadengie Conquisidor
Preferred head of winner. Nice
young bitch who excels in forechest which is something rarely seen at present.
Good ridge. Good well
boned front with strong pasterns and feet.
Good topline and turn of stifle with hocks well let down.
Her lovely easy balanced movement won her this place and the RCC.
3rd Bennie – Sharpie Jemima
